I'm going to start carrying my own apple juice

An ad for Starbucks I saw in a metro station. I have a "blankie;" Starbucks is nothing like a blankie. I've lost track of how many times I've gone into one this fall for a caramel apple cider, only to be told they don't have any apple juice. My blankie never lets me down like that. Shame on you, Starbucks, you are no blankie.

(This post brought to you by Bonnie's fatigue, bitterness, and lack of caramel goodness.)

Starbucks reprieve (for now)

Today I took my chances at one of the three Starbucks on King St. – figuring I would eliminate them one at time – and they did still have my apple cider. Whew. Don’t worry, you can all rest easy now. Aunt Traci, I hope this means you are still able to get one, too.

Maybe because she could sense my desperation, or because it wil be the last one she makes this “season,” the barista coated my whip cream in caramel sauce, just how I like it.

I did, however, still pick up a comment form because I will be letting Mrs. Star and Mr. Bucks know how I feel.

And sadly, Brandie, I feel I am now forced to concede your point, they aren’t real baristas if they are at a Safeway or Barnes and Noble. Your cold-hearted MBAness has corrupted me; I hope you're happy.

Death to Starbucks!

Conversation I had with the barista at the Starbucks in the Barnes and Noble today.

Me: A grande caramel apple cider, please.
Barista: We don't have those anymore, it's seasonal.
Me: But...it's still winter.
Barista: Yeah...but...
Me: Fine, I'll have tea.
Barista: Iced or hot?
Me: You have iced tea but not apple cider?!
Barista: Umm...yeah...

This is unacceptable. They never take it off the menu this early. There are only two things I drink at Starbucks, this and iced tea, usually the timing is perfect. I refuse to accept this. I will continue to ask for my drink at every Starbucks in Washington until I get my caramel apple cider!

And, also, they have hot coffee all year, why can't they have hot apple cider? It's not like apple juice is seasonal, and that's all it is.

I'm writing a letter to them, too. I have a lot of letters to write, actually. Them, Sarah Palin, the National History Museum, Bojangles, and a few others I'll think of later.

Day 294: More warm and toasty

According to Made of Honor, the little cardboard thingies that go around drinks at coffee shops, is called a coffee collar, and was invented by Patrick Dempsey's character circa 1996.

Just an interesting fact.

I've been looking for a more "permanent" coffee collar, so as not to have to waste the cardboard ones everytime I go. I bought one a few weeks ago at the craft fair, and used my felt cup muff for the first time today. (I like cup muff better than coffee collar. It rhymes. I like when things rhyme.)
I doubt my caramel apple cider even contains caffeine, but it's still environmentally friendly.

Day 291: Thank God it's Friday!

Ever since I had my first sushi a few weeks ago, I’ve been craving it again. But I’ve been too busy to head to a new restaurant to try it so today I bought supermarket sushi at Harris Teeter. Even before I tried it at all I always thought it was kind of nasty to buy it from a case at the grocery store. But other than being too loose, and having far too much cucumber, it wasn’t too bad.

I also broke down and ordered the Caramel Apple Spice at Starbucks, instead of calling it the Caramel Apple Cider. I don't know why they changed the name from cider to spice last year, but I resisted just because I'm petty like that. And because it was probably for the same non-existent reason they can't just call a small a small instead of a tall. Or venti. Or whatever.

And got a pink contact lens case with my saline solution in support of Susan G. Komen breast cancer research. I feel like there are more products than ever this year that are going to support breast cancer research, which can be nothing but good.

Day 223: Working on (not for) the weekend

I'm glad I love my job so that I don't mind that much needing to work this weekend. (I didn't have to, I just think it might make my coming week slightly less hectic.) This morning I dragged myself out of bed and to Cosi to do work work. I also had my first non-Starbucks caramel apple cider. As Starbucks only has this delightful drink seasonally, I only get it a few months of the year. Until now, since it appears Cosi has it year round. This could be bad. Very bad. Especially as they also have the option of caramel hot chocolate, which was my weakness in London. Oh yes, this will be very bad.
